PROTECT YOURSELF

Riders can't insulate themselves from death or dismemberment, but wearing the proper riding gear can help lessen whatever injuries result when a crash occurs. There are easy ways to prevent yourself from learning the hard way.

Passengers also need to protect themselves...even if you're "just going for a short ride." Brittany Morrow will regret thinking just that for the rest of her life. Brittany was a passenger on her boyfriend's bike wearing only capri style jeans, flip flops, an oversized helmet, and a sweatshirt over her bikini top. Five minutes into their ride she started having to fight the wind to stay on the bike...then it happened.

She closed her eyes as she continued her 522 tumble down Highway 550. Brittany stayed in the hospital suffering from the following injuries after her fall:

  • Third-degree road rash burns on 55% of her body
  • She lost nearly half of her left breast
  • She severed tendons in he rleft pinky finger and dislocated her right big toe
  • Morrow also suffered a large amount of blood loss, and ended up contracting pneumonia, a urinary tract infection, pseudomonas infections (common with burn victims), a blood infection, a blood clot in one of her legs, yeast infections, and amemia.

Don't let yourself end up like Brittany. Prevent your injuries with the proper gear. Make sure your gear fits YOU - it is not safe to borrow others' items, such as helmets, etc. All it takes is one simple accident and you could end up very hurt. Do yourself a favor and PROTECT YOURSELF.

"Riders should dress in preparation for the worst because they never know what may happen during a ride. Assuming that you won't crash is an impossibility that many riders need to let go of, because no one has the power to prevent every accident." - Brittany Morrow
